Number 3 on Google

Today's a pretty special day, I happen to be number 3 on google search for 'upright steam mop" due to my article on AC. This means I am apparently, the go-to-gal for all things clean. Strange when I can barely keep my apartment in order. However, I was still very excited, being on the top google listings is quite an honor. It's not like all my dreams the world over have been realized, but it's a step in the right direction. Today I'm writing a paper for class on Jane Eyre and printing various submissions to send off in the mail. I loathe sending out anything that isn't electronic when I do submissions, it costs so much more, but at this point in my career, I can't afford to be picky. Mostly because I can't afford anything at all.

I'm going to try submitting non-fiction pieces this time around, which isn't something I specialize in, but I seem to be drawn to memoir writing lately. Maybe it will make a nice book? That's for the future to decide I suppose. Now it's time to break out my trusty 2009 Writer's Market and query, query, query. Where are those stamps?

Oh, and I Love Cat's bailed on my article. They read it, liked it, but apparently already had printed something like it. Years ago they said. I say lame and hmph. I'm still waiting on Cat Fancy, whom I know will turn me down. A pedigreed cat writer I am not.

I Love Cats

Threw out a random query the other day for a publication called "I Love Cats". The editor was wonderful enough to get back to me very quickly saying she was interested in reading my piece, I sent it to her, and now the waiting game begins. I dislike the waiting game very much, more so than the payment game. The payment game is no picnic depending on when someone will write a check after the publication is signed on and it could be years before anyone sees any money. One of the fun things about being a full time freelancer. Money comes and money goes, I have to learn how to save my pennies now. I have five other queries in the email bank waiting to be written with none of the articles actually written yet. I find both the prospect of writing pitches and then writing articles intimidating, is that okay for a writer? I generally write queries based off tiny snippets of ideas, if accepted I'll pen out a full fledged article, is that lazy of me?

Writer Open for Business

I have three new articles out on AC and at least twenty more to be written. Some of these articles I'm hoping to pitch to online magazines, but several of my queries have gone unanswered thus far. It's hard to break into a solid market when everyone is fluxing toward's freelancing and the division of writing I specialise in, magazines, is going downhill. At this point I'm just trying to whip-up some kind of content regulation to my site. Currently, I'm only making about two dollars on average without my outside jobs. Let's see if we can raise the bar shall we? I've upgraded my job sites I look through every morning, I have six or seven now. I reply every morning to at least two of the jobs and save at least two on Elance. A lot of the jobs on the market right now require money to make money, that doesn't work for me. I'm on a search to find a freelance market I can tap into without having to pay somebody to offer me jobs.
Color me stumped? Any ideas?
