Las Vegas

Today comes the mega-clean of the apartment before our friends come over for the night. They are coming over so we can all fly out on the same airplane together really early in the morning. I'm getting married in a week. I've been having trouble sleeping lately. I've also been writing my ass off. So I suppose that's a fair trade off?

I get interviewed by Alison Tyler soon for my winning stories. I also should be hearing back from at least four of my submission outlets in the next couple days while I'm on vacation. I despise the 4-6 week rule on submission, it's always later than that and then I get nervous.

I've also committed myself to four anthologies for Excessica because they will be coming out sooner than my February book release and I need something to get my name out there. Plus, helping out people is super neat. I'm a big fan of this press.

Currently, I have my laptop and six books packed for this trip. Do I really think I'm going to read six books in Las Vegas. No, absolutely not. I'm doing it wrong if I do. But, I will always be prepared for my random reading whims. So six books it is and six books it will stay. Along with a memory stick with my work on it. Lots of hot, smutty work and a romance novel. I will take the erotica world by storm! Or, I'm going to try.

E-books

I've sent in three e-books total for hopeful publication this week. I should know the results of my gamble before I leave for vacation early Tuesday morning. I know my first short e-book won't be available for download until February of next year, but I'm also hoping to have a lot of available writing material by then to showcase a variety of my work. I have several sexy anthologies in the works as we speak. Still tuning up my fairy tales. I plan on working their seductive siren song to meet my needs on the plane to Vegas.

My publication in Clean Sheets should be around this week. I'll post it when I get the link all set. Joybutton is still sitting over at The Erotic Woman. I would have liked to receive comments just for the pure delight of knowing how many people have been reading my stuff. Being an up and comer just makes me more fragile to this whole game.

Although, I do find myself having to sacrifice style for audience frequently as I continue to write large chunks of my pieces. Maybe I'm just growing used to the meduim but I feel like my words don't have that kick they used too, like I'm going through the motions but nothing substantial is left over. But there's no point in writing for an audience if they can't understand you, no one will buy your books. My pieces tend to be do-it-yourself puzzles until I lead the way through with a cheat sheet. Now they are finished and pasted together before you can even get them out of the box. How do I find a happy meduim?

Short E-Book

I had my short e-book "Check-Out" accepted for publication from Excessica. I am totally excited and it should be coming out soon. I'll keep you posted.

Not Sick Anymore, Win!

I hacked through my inner sick demons and I am better. It must have been an odd 48 hour dealie of death. I was not amused. I think I have enough karma in me to never get sick again. I suppose my immune system does not agree.

My new publication in Clean Sheets comes out later this month. I can't wait, my little head is spinning with excitement. Until then I amuse myself by typing up my smut, mailing it out, and playing with a new laser cat toy that drives my beloved feline nuts. She is the best thing in the world when this laser pointer gets going. Our favorite thing to do now is herd her in the bedroom with it at night when we sleep. We normally have to chase her because we close the door, Nick feels more safe that way. It also makes it harder for her to get into trouble while we slumber, she is very curious. Well, now all we have to do is dangle that little light in our doorway and she is a zoom of kitty flesh. It is most excellent.

Sick

I'm sick. I also just found out that half the submissions I sent in this month with strict deadlines for Black Lace and Nexus Anthologies won't be looked at because they are canceling the anthologies. I have to go see if I can find an old copy of the submissions guidelines and figure out which stories I was going to write for them in the future and then delete it off my calender. I also have to see which stories I sent in for them and start marketing those stories to other people. It's a big blow when I feel like total crap.

In other, better news, I started my romance writing class and it's going well. I have my story and my first project is due the day I leave for Vegas. So that's a little stressful. I'm writing paranormal contemporary romance. Wish me luck! Blogging from bed right now because I'm an achy mess.

Sometimes, when I’m bored and my insomnia has kicked in towards the far end of 3am, I surf Amazon for books. This is not a guilty pleasure. I stroke and placate its little search engine box to bring me the ripest of sex-capades, eyeing and sizing up the word packages. None of this Kindle bullshit. I want my treasures to smell of musk and ink. Pulling it out of the dusty cardboard box should be in unholy violation with penknife in hand, arm slick with sweat. The anticipation, the anxiety making my breathe abrupt and hard as I struggle with the packing tape and then the simple plastic lining. Some people get off with sex toys; I prefer a slow mind fuck.

My First Rejection from a Print Anthology

I got a nice letter today. A letter of rejection that liked my ideas but thought my story was to disjointed for their readership. I tend to write artistically, the only issue with this one is that I was changing perspectives and it didn't quite conform to fairytale stories which was the anthologies purpose. It was the little mermaid with a twist.

I intend to look at it objectively when I don't feel quite so crushed. I don't enjoy putting out everything for my readers, I like a more connect-the dot-method which doesn't work for everyone. I understand that readership is most important to editors, I will make things more clear. but I will not pander to an audience that shouldn't be reading my work because they don't understand it.

They say there is a perfect market for everything. Every piece under the sun can find a home if you work at it. So, apparently I'll be working at it with this one.

I'm at a cross roads and I don't really know what to do.

My muse was swinging

Last night I completed all my erotica deadlines for July and started on the ones for August with a bang. A full story came out of my typing fingertips in a very short sitting. It was surprising how well everything wrapped up nicely in the story without me even thinking about it. Now I only have two more stories to complete before August 1st and I'm in the clear with deadlines.

After conforming to the rules of non-fiction and paper writing for four years my fiction muse is very springy now that she is in use again. So much filthy goodness is just popping out of my head onto the screen. Although, I did struggle horribly with a threesome piece until this morning when I just gave up and sent in what I had for the deadline. My heart just wasn't entirely in it this time around and the sex wasn't as well brought together as I would have liked it to be. The premise and set-up were lovely. But erotica is about the sex, so I don't have much hope for that piece being submitted.

On the home front I'm going home for the 4th and getting everything settled for my upcoming nuptials. I'm so excited to see the invitations.
