Jane Austen

For some reason today I just wanted to watch lots and lots of Jane Austen. But I'm pretty sure that's normal for a female writer. Reading as much of it as I wanted would take a long time so I settled into a long night of Pride and Prejudice with Keira Knightly, Being Jane with Anne Hathaway, and Sense and Sensibility with Kate Winslet. I had my knitting in my lap and it was a party. Of course now I want to throw out all my works in progress and start fresh as a historical/regency romance writer, but we'll see where the future takes me. That's originally what I wrote when I was little still penning stuff on pen and paper all the time. My first set of novels were on really large gray tablets they give you in elementary school because I was only in the 4th grade. They were horrid soup opera books where heroine's often went galloping on there horses into the moonlight. I've been nervous to try my hand at historical romance ever since. I do not want a repeat of those books though I keep them in a shoe box under my bed to make myself feel better when writing just isn't coming to me. No matter what I write, nothing is as bad as those characters, nothing as stale as that plot. It's comforting.

I think for the next few days I'll try writing to classical instead of Teen Pop. I've already jumped a plot hurdle because of my movie marathon. A conversation that happened with the heroine and her mother now has to happen with the hero and the heroine because it will be more true to their emotions. I've been fiddling with that scene for days because it just didn't seem right. I need to make my character's bleed in the emotional sense and I'm just not getting that out of them yet. So, that's what I hope to accomplish tomorrow. Raw emotion so my readers cry. Austen was always good at that, wasn't she?

Work, Work, Work

Today was a good work day for me. Though I promised myself a break, we all know how that goes! I turned my errata for Little Plaid Skirt Saga 1 and 2. I'm thinking it will get a November 2010 publication slot with Excessica but I'll update that more when the info gets to me. I also managed to finish an erotica BDSM romance beta read for someone. A beta read is just giving an opinion and quick edits on the work before it goes to an editor or on submission. It was really neat to help someone.

Oh, and greatest news of all! I finally got around to submitting my erotic fairytale anthology Between the Covers to Samhain press for consideration. I can't wait to hear back from them!

Flabbergasted To Say The Least

Oh my head hurts after Friday's episode. But seriously, those writers and actors deserve an award. Sheer genius. Bravo. I feel creatively inspired. Must go write now.

Juggling Projects

Normally, my main rule when in the midst of too many projects is follow the order of deadlines. If such and such is due before project that other one, than such and such gets done first. But this isn't always the case when there are self made deadlines. If I make the deadlines sometimes I want to do what I really want to write that day first, whether or not it's my current WIP is yet to be known. This is where being my own boss comes in handy and can be my downfall. Here's my conflict breakdown:

1. If it's another story begging to be written during WIP

• I take notes, outline, or write the first paragraph until it leaves me alone.

1. If it's another WIP honing in on current WIP's time

• I ignore it the best I can with loud music until word count is met on current and then reward myself with words on the WIP that is bothering me. 

1. If I haven't started any WIP that morning but have to pick one.

• This is where things get tricky for me. There is only one of me and two of them, I can't tackle both at once without massive headaches and voice hopping. Mostly one WIP I love way more than the other or is just going easier wins the war and gets pages for the day. I really should fix that, but it's my Achilles heel, I'm a sucker for things I want to do. Aren't we all.

I just came back to Blood Purgatory's 3rd draft after being away for weeks and weeks. I want to scrap the next few chapters just because the edits seem enormous. I'm also in the head for my novella. Got to switch gears and do both, w00t. So, the point is, what do I work on tomorrow morning? The book that is supposed to be done Feb 1st for beta reading (at least) which I'm a little more than halfway through editing with huge plot line chunks that need to be taken care of. Or, the short novella I'm just writing on like a storm is chasing me which is (theoretically) due by the end of Jan with 30k words? What is an author to do.

It's been awhile

But never fear I am back with a lot of good news.

First off, my husband just made delicious garlic bread and who doesn't love that? Second, I have four new stories coming out from Excessica in the week's I've been away. I've been a busy little bee and I've managed to complete The Little Plaid Skirt Saga all about catholic school girl skirts and the naughty women who love them. I've also written two longer stories for Excessica anthologies. One for a paranormal anthology about matriarchal fae called Shifting Desire and another for a Fairytale anthology called Red Smoke.

I've also been working on a paranormal novella set in the 40's hopefully geared for Samhain in the spring.
